OFSTED REPORT

Welcome back to school and I hope everyone had a good Easter. On 13th March, we had a visit from OFSTED to celebrate the excellent work your children carry out at Rack House. The visit went well and as from January 2018, OFSTED can not give a school a grading of outstanding if it was previously judged as Good in its last inspection. The best recommendation a school can get is that it is close to outstanding so will be visited within 12 months to 24months to confirm this judgement. No school can now go from good to Outstanding on the first visit!

As you can see we achieved this result and are looking forward to OFSTED returning to see how well our children are achieving and attaining!

A result like this can only be achieved with the hard work of children, parents, staff and governors. We are delighted that all our hard work is being recognised and hopefully when OFSTED return we can achieve the result we all want!

The report can also be found on our website and will be published nationally by OFSTED on Monday 16th April.

Cars!

If you use the school to drop children off can we be very careful when driving into school and dropping off or picking up please. I have had reports off parents that car drivers are not paying enough attention to pedestrians and children walking into school.

We are one of the few schools that allows cars into the school premises to pick and drop off children. If this becomes a danger to pedestrians, I will have no option other than to close the school gates to vehicles!

On a similar note local residents have once again contacted the school to complain that some parents are parking across driveways and blocking residents in when picking up and dropping off their children for school. If vehicles are parked dangerously, not only is it inconvenient for residents, it also puts our children and parents walking to school at risk.

The school has started a walking bus to pick children up in the mornings, where children then come into school and receive breakfast. The cost of this is £1.00 per day and may help ease congestion. If you wish to use this facility, please contact Mrs Kelly or Mrs Nilan.

Attendance

Many thanks to most parents for ensuring their children attend school and get here on time. We can only teach children and ensure they progress if they are in school regularly and are here on time. Last year we had a Persistent absence rate of 15.4%, compared to the national average of 8.8%. This means nearly twice as many children did not attend school for a variety of reasons as others from similar backgrounds.

We are meeting with individual parents to speak about attendance and encourage all parents to ensure their children have access to the education they are entitled to.

School Lunches

We need your support to help our children have healthy lifestyles so that together, we can ensure their healthy wellbeing.

Here is a website which provides advice on what children can eat to ensure a healthy lifestyle.

This is not a complete list but it does give some ideas; there are many websites which will assist you in choosing what may be appropriate for your children to eat.

After School Care Club

Can I remind all parents that they should contact the school office if they wish their children to attend the After School Care Club: cost, £8 per session. Can parents please book well in advance so we can assure all children can attend as we have to ensure ratios are set for adults and children.

Your child’s belongings

Please ensure that your child’s school bag, uniform items, PE kit, water bottle and lunch boxes etc. are clearly labelled with your child’s name and class.  There are lost items collected from around school every day and this will help us to identify which children items belong to. Lost property is placed in respective red bins along the corridors of KS1 and KS2 each half term and items will be donated to charity if uncollected. Thank you for your support.
