As we settle back in to the new school year, it is clear that we as a community are settling in to the ‘new normal’ in school! We have sanitisers in all classrooms for children to sanitise their hands and also sinks with soap for all children to wash their hands if they need to.
As with most other schools, we have split year groups into ‘bubbles’ where children work and socialise together. This is as per national guidelines and we are doing everything we can to ensure children are safe in school. Children will catch colds as we move further into Autumn and Winter and also, as they mix with other children having been apart for 6 months! Try not to get too alarmed at colds as the COVID guidelines clearly have down as a high temperature, continuous cough for at least 1 hour (or a spate of 3 coughing episodes over 24 hours) and a loss of taste and smell as triggers. Only at this stage should you consider children as being at risk of COVID. I do realise that this is now a difficult time and if you have any doubts, please let us know.
The staggered starts and finish times are working well due to your support. The new one-way system is reducing congestion. Many thanks for all your support in helping to make this work.
The school is will be reintroducing hot school meals from Monday 5th October and menus will soon be on live kitchen for you to pick what your child would like to eat. We will be staggering lunchtimes to ensure that year groups eat separately and that all our children have enough time to eat their meals in comfort.
I realise that packed lunches are not perfect for all children and as we have ensured school has opened and routines are in place, we are moving back to our usual routines for lunch.
The government have allocated funding to schools for teachers to work extra hours with children to support them catch-up for the missing 6 months earlier this year. Staff will be sending home letters in Years 1 to 6 for children to stay for an extra hour after school to help support and improve their progress.
If your child gets this letter please sign it immediately and send it back as we intend to start the after school lessons on the week commencing 28th September 2020.
Inset Day 2nd October
A reminder to parents that school will be shut to children on Friday 2nd October for a staff training day. Please place this in your calendars as we usually have at least one child arrive at school on these days!
MacMillan Coffee Morning/ Race
We will have our annual MacMillan Coffee morning on Friday 25th September, but this year parents will not be able to attend!
The children, in the afternoon, will be asked to take part in a run for The MacMillan Fund where children will be asked to donate £1.00 to take part in it. Children will run with some staff and it will help with our daily exercise! All monies raised will go to the MacMillan Fund as most people now know someone affected by cancer.
Year 4 Swimming
Swimming lessons for our Year 4 children started on Tuesday 15th September. Please ensure children attend school with all items they need for this activity. As we are the last school of the day, we usually arrive back to school for 3.45pm on these days.
It is important that children get to school on time so that we instil good attitudes to learning and ensure that all our children know that punctuality is very important in life.
All children with 100% attendance weekly will receive a raffle ticket and will be entered into our year group draw, where they may win a £10 WH Smith voucher. The more weeks you are in 100% of the time, the more chance you have of winning! Good luck.
After School and Breakfast Club
After school and breakfast club are open as usual. Can I remind all parents that they should contact the school office if they wish their children to attend either club. Booking forms are available from the office or to download from the school website. Prices are £10 per child for the after school club and £2 per child for the breakfast club. We hope you take advantage of this extra service.
Your child’s belongings
Please ensure that your child’s school bag, uniform items, PE kit, water bottle and lunch boxes etc. are labelled with child’s name and class. Every day there are lost items and this will help us to identify which children items belong to. Thank you for your support.
